Walk for the Cure

In 2014 we raised a combined total of US$191,754

Altas Union supports all efforts to raise the public’s awareness of all types of cancer, including early detection, treatment and the urgent need for a permanent cure. This is in acknowledgement of the benefits of early detection and its direct correlation to survival rate. For instance, breast cancer survival rates have increased because greater awareness has increased the number of women receiving mammograms, the number of breast cancers detected, and the number of women receiving biopsies. Overall, as a result of awareness, breast cancers are being detected at an earlier, more treatable stage.

In most of our countries the bank partners with organisations across the region to participate in national walk events on or around the 1st weekend in October. In our remaining countries, "Walk For The Cure" walk events are hosted by employees who invite their friends and families to participate in order to promote wider efforts to raise awareness.
